Integration Start

After our trip to Akihabara to purchase components for the system, we’ve started the integration process between the Arduino Uno board (a brand of microcontroller) and MATLAB (software for performing calculations). Whilst waiting for the sensors to be calibrated, we want to ensure communication between the Arduino board and MATLAB is ready to go.

Since we don’t have any input data to the Arduino board yet, we’ve told the microcontroller to produce some random numbers and send these as a test. Six random numbers, representing the signals from the force sensors we are using, are sent to the computer where they are summed and displayed in real-time. Here’s a GIF of the process:

By making sure the Arduino board and MATLAB can talk to each other just now through this simple test, we hope to reduce some of the time needed later to fully integrate the sensor system with MATLAB.
